   In a haze Paul reached down and picked up a pair of black jeans from where they were heaped on the floor and put them on. Then he reached into the bag of clean clothes and grabbed a shirt at random, pulling what turned out to be a black long-sleeved shirt over his head. Finally he added the stone necklace and brushed his teeth in the kitchen sink. Grabbing his cell phone and MP3 player off their chargers and adding a pair of headphones to his pocket he slid out the front door.   The walk to the restaurant passed with the same dreamlike quality that the rest of the day had.
